Anyone who has lived through a winter in Herat knows that the cold is no trivial matter. The icy wind that moves through the narrow streets does more than chill the air; it unsettles the hearts of families who cannot afford even the most basic means of heating their homes. In such days, solidarity is not just a word, it is a necessity.
As part of its ongoing humanitarian efforts, the Habibyar Charitable Foundation launched a winter relief initiative aimed at easing the burden of the season’s harsh temperatures. A total of 32,400 kilograms of coal were distributed to 1,620 vulnerable families in Herat Province, with each family receiving 20 kilograms. This support came at a critical time, as many households, due to severe economic hardship, were unable to secure fuel to keep their homes warm.
The primary objective of the program was to provide immediate assistance and to prevent the serious health risks associated with extreme cold. Low temperatures can pose significant threats to children, the elderly, and those already struggling with illness. Providing coal, one of the most essential winter necessities, was a meaningful step toward ensuring safety and peace of mind for these families.
The process was carried out through careful identification of eligible households, with strict attention to transparency and fairness. Field teams conducted thorough assessments of families’ economic conditions before finalizing the list of beneficiaries. Distribution was then organized in a structured and dignified manner, ensuring that assistance reached those most in need.
Throughout the initiative, preserving the dignity of each family remained a top priority. Efforts were made to ensure that the aid was delivered respectfully, in an orderly environment, and without any form of discrimination.
For the 1,620 families who received coal, this effort represented more than just a supply of fuel.
